The coastal town of Hua Hin, long known as a vacation retreat, is now being viewed as a popular retirement haven. Factor in the competitive cost of Hua Hin real estate. Then include  the friendly Thai people, beautiful beaches, temperate climate, low cost of living, and no property tax and retirement in exotic Thailand has never been more inviting. Despite the short distance to Bangkok, surprisingly Hua Hin enjoys much more appealing weather, having far less rain and many more hours of sunshine to the enjoyment of sunbathers, snorkelers and golfers.

Hua Hin is located on the sunrise side of the Gulf of Thailand and has an ideal location. Presently a 2 1/2 hour drive from Bangkok, Hua Hin is far enough from the hustle and bustle to enjoy less traffic, and a more relaxed lifestyle, but still close enough to Bangkok for a fun weekend of shopping, night entertainment or even a trip to the International Airport, when life gets too slow.

By 2006-8, the Thai Government is expecting to have completed a highway, which should decrease the travel time to Bangkok by a good hour, making Hua Hin even more attractive as a vacation/retirement home to the rich Thai nationals, the expats who reside in Bangkok and international retirees. Compared to vacation/retirement homes in Phuket, Hua Hin is still very affordable and pleasantly much less commercial.

Being a tourist town, Hua Hin has many fine restaurants, cafes and dining establishments. Besides this, Hua Hin has many services to offer, 2 hospitals, a post office, inexpensive local transportation, & shopping, 7 golf courses and numerous massage shops & spas who offer the renowned 2 hour Thai Massages with either unbelievable low prices or exquisite pampering.

On the days you tire of golf, (if that is humanly possible), more exotic lands and adventures await you and can sometimes be as close as a day trip away. Explore the Northern villages of the Hill tribesmen, or the nearby fishing villages, later you can venture beyond the Thai borders into Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, or Indochina.

Although the town is relatively small compared with many Asian cities, Hua Hin is very modern, and clean. There are satellite T.V. dishes, inexpensive internet service and the famous night market where you can shop till you drop and still have money in your wallet.

Because the King's Winter Palace is situated in Hua Hin, and he has recently decided to make Hua Hin his permanent home, special attempts are made to keep crime low and regularly update and maintain the town. Most of the crimes that tend to be committed are non-violent and are more often shady business practices, credit card theft, or extra charges to bills if you are not paying attention, so do take particular care in these areas.
